FOR JAPANESE STUDENTS
 
The following scholarships are available for international students.
All scholarships, except the Japanese Government Scholarships will be awarded only to students who have been selected through the on-campus selection procedures of Oita University after their arrival in Japan.

1. Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship
$1,550 per month  (postgraduate students)
$1,520 per month (research students)
$1,250 per month  (undergraduate students)

Scholarships for Postgraduate Students and Research students - Applications should be made to the Japanese Embassy in the country of residence. Alternatively, the Japanese university to which students apply for admission recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for grants.
Scholarships for Undergraduate Students - Applications should be made to the Japanese Embassy in the country of residence: the embassy usually recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for the grants. For undergraduate students in their last year of study in university/college, the Japanese university to which they apply for admission recommends to the Japanese government those who should be selected for the grants.
 
2. Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarships
$700 per month  (graduate and research students)
$500 per month  (undergraduate students)
Applications are invited twice a year, April and September.
For the April entry, scholarships are granted for a year, but for the September entry they are granted for only 6 months.
 
3. Oita University International Exchanges and Academic Promotion Fund
$200 per month
Applications are invited twice a year, April and October.
For those who commence in April, scholarships are granted for a year, but for the October entry they are granted for only 6 months and should be made to the university.
 
4. Oita Prefecture Scholarship
$210 per month
Applications are invited in May and selection is made by Oita University.

$1,200 per month (Postgraduate students)

Homewide Foundation Scholarships $2,500 per year (Undergraduate students) Application: April
Kohnam Asia Scholarship Foundation $700 per month Application: March
Rotary Yoneyama Foundation $1,400 per month (Postgraduate students)
$1,000 per month (Undergraduate students)
Application: September
Nikki and Sadayoshi Association Scholarship
$2,500 per year (Postgraduate and undergraduate students in engineering department) Application: September

University Selection Procedure for Ranking Recommendations.

Selection will be based on the following four points: applicant's academic record, financial need, essay, and scholastic achievement (i.e., publications, conference presentations, etc.).
Please apply for a scholarship when you find an announcement of a particular scholarship on the notice board. Application details will be provided in the announcement.
A student may receive only one scholarship during one academic year.
In the selection for scholarships worth more than ¥600,000 a year, priority will be given to students failing to receive such a scholarship in the previous year.



Exemption from Tuition Fees

Graduate and undergraduate degree students with financial difficulties and excellent achievement may be allowed 50% or 100% remission of the tuition fee.
