| Purpose |

Students who are interested in
the Japanese language and Japanese culture and society spend six months
or a year at Oita University to study the language and subjects offered
in English. The program provides an excellent opportunity to gain an
understanding of Japanese culture and to experience multicultural
experiences through interaction with students from various parts of the
world. IPOU also enables Japanese students to raise their cultural
awareness through interacting with international students. |
| Qualifications
and Conditions |

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
can only be accepted by Oita University under a Student Exchange
Agreement with their home university to which they should apply. It is
a requirement that interested students be recommended by their home
institution.
Non-native speakers must have sufficient ability in .English to
understand lectures
taught in English. In principle, they should have at least the 550
TOEFL score
(213 score for a computer-based test) or equivalents. |

| Credits Transfer |

Students need to take at least 7 subjects
(i.e. 10 contact hours a week) in order to satisfy the requirement of a
student visa. Credits earned at Oita University may be certified as
applicable to the total number of credits necessary for graduation from
the international student's home university. |
| Fees/Scholarships |
| |
Tuition and entrance fees are waived by
Oita University as the host university, but tuition and other fees
should be paid to the home university. Students can apply for a JASSO
(Japan Student Services Organization) Scholarship at the time they
apply for an exchange place. |
