Oita University aims to expand its Exchange Promotion Scheme by accepting students from partner universities. Exchange students study for one semester (six months) or two semesters (one year) as non-degree students. Credits earned at Oita are certified by the University and may be accepted as applicable to the total number of credits necessary for graduation by students' home universities. Tuition fees are waived for international exchange students whilst they are studying at Oita University. Two different programs are offered under the Scheme:   1. International Program at Oita University (IPOU)   The University offers a special course of study titled "International Program at Oita University" ("IPOU" for short) for international students. The program aims to expand the Exchange Promotion Scheme by accepting students who do not have sufficient ability in the Japanese language. Classes are taught in English and prior knowledge of Japanese is not required. 2. Niho Program (Exchange Program through the Medium of Japanese)   This is a program for those who have attained sufficient Japanese language skills to take any courses which the University offers in Japanese.
